The BCS Community year is now well underway, with the AGM season in full swing, as member groups elect their new committees to guide them forward. Some of you will be receiving this newsletter for the first time by dint of the fact you have just joined a committee; for others, this will not be your first!
I want to thank you for volunteering - you are the lifeblood of our community and you have the opportunity to help realise the Institute’s new strategy. Growing and sustaining our membership is our number one objective; followed by increasing our influence, providing IT professionals with opportunities to progress their careers, and aiming to inspire a whole new generation.
As a Community, we know specialist groups need to reach wider audiences, and geographic groups (branches and sections) must reach out more deeply into their local IT communities. We also know that just doing what we have done in the past is not necessarily going to cut the mustard moving forward. Next summer, we are planning to celebrate how groups have innovated their activities during the coming 2021-22 year.
What innovations are you and your committee planning this autumn for your group that you will want to celebrate with the whole community next summer? How will your group move the membership, inspiration, progression and influence ‘dials’ to help deliver the Institute’s strategy?
Best wishes
Alastair Revell Vice-President, Community
Community Programme Year 2021-22
Our new programme year started in September and featured Holly Porter, BCS membership director, presenting the BCS 3-year strategy and strategic pillars. We will be diving deeper into the pillars and the supporting business activity over the next 3 months. Meanwhile, make sure you that you save the date for our core BCS community programme events below.
The consultation created by the Member Group Working Group (MGWG), seeking the views of member group committee members, will remain open until 12th November
The communications working group was established to improve; the way in which BCS central and governance communicate with member groups, how member groups communicate with each other and how member groups communicate with their members.
To support this work you are invited to participate in a survey on communication preferences.
