With budget proposals submitted, many of us will be turning our thoughts to the remaining events of the year. I’ve noticed a gradual return to face-to-face, and an increase in hybrid events. However, in the race to normality, we must not forget how our virtual gatherings have allowed us to connect with fellow members from all over the UK and across the globe. It is important we maintain our online activities to make BCS community more accessible across our membership body, being purposeful for when we choose to meet face-to-face vs online.
With the creation of our new online community, we will be trialling a new form of community engagement and collaboration by using the BCS Community forum to run our Spring Convention in a way that is less schedule dependent and can be engaged with at your own convenience. The content will focus on the analysis of activity shared in budget submissions and identifying key themes, trends in activity, and opportunities for collaboration.

Committees have a target of attaining 100 new members to help with BCS membership growth. To date, you have attracted 46 new members via your member group discount codes.
The 2022 Member Group Spring Convention theme is 'collaboration and building your BCS member group network'. We will be launching the master planning content that member groups have been contributing to as part of the budget process. It will be an opportunity to identify collaboration opportunities and learn what other member groups are planning for the next financial year.
Utilising our new online community space, the BCS Community, Spring Convention will be delivered slightly differently to previous conventions.
Jon Jeffery, Head of Community, will be providing some analysis of activities shared within budget submissions with the aim of identifying trends in activity, key themes and areas for collaboration.
The content will be shared via recorded video, and we will be providing a master document containing submissions from across the community, with the opportunity for volunteers to ask questions and make connections with other groups. Look out for an email inviting you to participate in mid May.
